Pariser Platz with the Brandenburg Gate

One of the main focal points of Berlin is in the center of the city situated by the Brandenburg Gate. It is the square of Pariser Platz named after the French capital Paris in honor of the Allied occupation of Paris in 1814. [video below]

During the last years of WWII, the buildings around the square were turned to rubble. The only structure left standing in the ruins of Pariser Platz was the Brandenburg Gate.

June 1945
Brandenburg Gate is the only remaining gate of a series eight wall crossings through which Berlin was once entered. It is regarded as one of Europe's most famous landmarks.
